Michael has extensive experience with CalPERS, the '37 Act, and local retirement systems. He assists public agencies that are audited by CalPERS and responds to and challenges audit findings. Michael also assists clients in navigating post-retirement work restrictions and deter-mining independent contractor status. He also assists agencies with issues related to CalPERS medical, health benefits of elected officials, and retiree medical benefits.
Michael provides advice and counsel to employers regarding employee leave rights, engaging in the interactive process with disabled employees and providing reasonable accommodations to disabled employees. Michael guides public agencies through the entire disability retirement process, including appeals. He also advises clients on a variety of wage and hour issues and the Fair Labor Standard Act.
